FROM THE OPEN SCIENCE PROGRAMME

Call for Open Research Data (ORD) Reviewers

The programme Open Science I, Phase B – ORD implements the action lines of the ORD Action Plan, which are under the responsibility of swissuniversities. The Delegation Open Science leads the implementation of the programme on behalf of the swissuniversities Board. Open calls for proposals can be viewed here.

The Delegation Open Science of swissuniversities is recruiting ORD experts to expand the existing Open Science Reviewers’ Pool, whose task is to assess the quality, impact and relevance of proposals using an anonymised open peer review process. To expand the Open Science Reviewers’ Pool, we are looking for two different profiles:

  • Profile I: Senior Experts in the Field of ORD

  • Profile II: Junior Researchers with Expertise in ORD

Please send your application to open-science@swissuniversities.ch  by 7 October 2022.

For more information on the expertise and skills requirements, the expectations as well as the recruitment process, please see the following document.

Swiss Open Research Data Grants: Call for full proposals for Track B closed

Track B “Establish projects” supports the anchoring of existing ORD practices that have a research agenda and a common understanding of ORD principles. It provides the opportunity to take these practices to the next level, improve their scope, and develop projects that can become de facto standards in a community and promote quality.

The call for full proposals is now closed. The submitted applications will be evaluated by the experts of the Open Science Programme Reviewers’ Pool and the final decision will be made by the Open Science Delegation in December 2022.

NATIONAL OPEN ACCESS MONITORING (NOAM) PROJECT

Swiss Open Access Monitor is online

The Swiss Open Access Monitor is now online. It offers indicators at a national level to measure the progress of the implementation of Open Access in Switzerland. For the successful realisation of the project, co-funded by swissuniversities and the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries, the project team of the Consortium worked closely together with the specialists of the Arbeitskreis Open Access (AKOA) and the Jülich Research Centre. The project would like to express their sincere thanks to all specialists for their contributions and all swissuniversities members who participated in the national repository survey.

On 19 September 2022, the project team and representatives of Forschungszentrum Jülich will present the Swiss Open Access Monitor at the Open Access Days in Bern to an international audience.

Webinar: Swiss Open Access Monitor

The project team invites you to register for webinar sessions on 27 and 29 September 2022 and is very happy to accept registrations at the following link (registration is open until 22 September). You are welcome to enter your questions to be addressed in the webinar directly in the registration form. The project team looks forward to welcoming you online.

PROJECT GOAL

Data report and participation in the Open Access Days

The GOAL project (Unlocking the Green Open Access potentiaL in scholarly and professional journals in Switzerland), co-funded by swissuniversities, starts this autumn with news relevant for the Open Science and Open Access communities:

  1. Green Open Access: first report on publication records available

During spring, the project team collected publication data for the years 2020 – 2021 from different Swiss universities of applied sciences and teachers’ education. The data was merged, harmonised, and analysed during summer. Now, both the report about the gathered data and the harmonised data are available in GOAL’s Zenodo community: GOAL - Unlocking the Green Open Access potentiaL in scholarly and professional journals in Switzerland | Zenodo.

Please note that this version of the report is written in German but, in line with the multilingual spirit of the GOAL project, versions in French and English are being prepared by the project team. These will follow soon.

  2. Meet us: Poster presentation at the Open Access Days in Berne, 20 September 2022

GOAL participates in the Open Access Days in Bern (19-21 September 2022) with a poster presentation. The poster is already available online in the Open Access Days community in Zenodo:

Wie das GOAL-Projekt nachhaltige Kollaborationen zwischen Menschen, Maschinen und Strukturen fördert | Zenodo

The poster represents how GOAL contributes to the collaboration between different actors within the academic publication landscape while promoting Green Open Access.

The GOAL team will be present during the Poster session on the 20th of September (09:00 – 10:15h). Come and meet us!

WEBINARS

“Data Stewardship” – Yan Wang & Esther Plomp   |   TU Delft

On 25 August 2022, swissuniversities organised a webinar on the institutional set-up of data stewardship. Two guest speakers from the TU Delft, Dr. ir. Yan Wang and Dr. Esther Plomp-Peterson, shared their experiences as data stewardship coordinator and data steward. The event offered a fruitful exchange, especially for representatives of HEIs involved in the swissuniversities’ call for proposals B5.2: Action plans on data stewardship.

The slides of the webinar are available under this link.

“All you want to know about the agreement on reforming research assessment” – Vinciane Gaillard & Rita Morais  |   European University Association

► Online webinar taking place on Thursday, 15 September 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

The reform of research assessment supported by the European Commission, the European University Association (EUA) and Science Europe is taking centre stage in the scientific community and in academic and policy-making circles. They have joined efforts to overcome the ‘publish or perish’ paradigm and move towards a broader focus on quality, impact, diversity, inclusiveness and collaboration. This webinar, hosted and organized by swissuniversities, provides a unique opportunity to ask your questions in advance and to learn more about the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment published in July 2022.

  • Who can sign the Agreement and join the Coalition?
  • What will it entail if you join the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), a group of organisations willing to work together in developing and implementing the changes set in the Agreement?
  • Is your organisation ready to join and sign this Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment?

The presentation will provide an overview of the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment, and how it was developed as a co-creation exercise, involving extensive consultations with over 350 organisations from 40 countries representing the diversity of the research community across Europe. Furthermore, it will present the principles, commitments and timeframe of the process envisioned after the launch of the Agreement. The webinar will also provide space to answer the questions in order to make an informed decision in the near future about signing the agreement and joining the coalition.

To best prepare for this webinar, feel free to review carefully the FAQs on the Agreement and Coalition on Reforming Research Assessment. In case you have additional specific questions regarding this Agreement you wish to see addressed during the webinar, please feel free to send them to us in advance to: open-science@clutterswissuniversities.ch.

Registration for this event is free and can be submitted here.
