Open Calls for ORD Projects
The Open Science Programme of swissuniversities welcomes applications from eligible higher education institutions in the following action lines:
--> Action Line C2.2: RDM-Training in Curricula
We welcome project proposals that aim to develop a model curriculum for a specific discipline which integrates research data management (RDM) into the training of PhD students and junior researchers. Preference is given to concepts with high potential for use at other institutions and other disciplines. If applicable, project proposals should involve the different types of higher education institutions and other relevant actors in the field of RDM.

--> Action Line D1.3: Incentives and Rewards
Open Science and ORD practices are increasingly important in research assessment. With this call, we support higher education institutions who consider ORD practices in recruitment and career advancement processes - or who would like to do so more explicitly. Higher education institutions are invited to submit project proposals that promote inter-institutional exchange and best practices dissemination through communication and awareness-raising activities (e.g., workshops, conferences, and other formats). The proposed approaches should also align with Europe-wide efforts to reform research assessment systems.

Open Access Call for Communication & Awareness Raising Projects
The Open Science Programme of swissuniversities welcomes applications from eligible higher education institutions focusing on Awareness Raising & Communication on a rolling basis.
With this call, you can fund Open Access communication and awareness raising activities with a national and/or a regional scope.
More information regarding the Open Access Implementation Plan, the relevant action lines and the requirements are available in the document "Open Action Lines for the 2023 Open Access Call for Projects".

31 August: Webinar: How to distribute an already published article as Open Access?
Within the project Regulatory Framework financed by swissuniversities, CCdigitallaw is hosting a webinar on the topic of Copyright & Second Publication Right in Switzerland.
Who should participate? The webinar is targeted to librarians, research support offices, open access units/offices and in general those, who support researchers in the publication process as well as researchers themselves.
The webinar will provide an overview on copyright in academia, and address if and how researchers may republish their scientific publications as open access (the Open Access Green Road). It will indicate what is already possible today with regard to second publication right by answering questions like: Are researchers allowed to republish their scientific publications? If yes, after how much time? Which version should they republish (e.g. preprint, final)? How should they deal with long embargo periods agreed in the contract?

5 September: OLOS webinar – OLOS in Values!
The OLOS Association’s team is pleased to invite you to join this free webinar a presentation of our different package options for your OLOS Organizational Units.
OLOS is the main deliverable of the Data Life-Cycle Management project, from swissuniversities P-5 Program. Its portal allows the long-term preservation of any kind of research data and documentation, and their access and reuse management.
Who should participate? This webinar is addressed to researchers, PhD students, research advisors, librarians, and to any person working with research data. It will be an occasion to get introduced to the different OLOS packages features and our pricing system. At the end, a time will be dedicated to your questions.

12 September: Free online symposium by FORS Data Service on: “Sharing data in the light of the new data protection law”
In September 2023, the new Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) will become effective in Switzerland. Do you have questions on what data protection laws imply for your research? Are you interested to learn how to share your data and related research materials while respecting the legal requirements? Do you want to know where to share your data and related research materials safely?
Who should participate? Targeted to researchers, the symposium will provide information about the new data protection law and elaborate on the implications for empirical social science research. Researchers will learn more about SWISSUbase, as well as the newly established FORS Replication Service, which allows researchers to share their replication materials. The final part of the symposium will focus on the deposit of research data and related good practices.

Now Available: Overview of Standards and Best Practices in Diamond Open Access Publishing
The PLATO project has compiled an overview with information about requirements and recommendations in the area of workflows, standards in open access publishing, and sustainability for publishers of Diamond Open Access journals, with the aim to support editors in positioning their journal in the best possible way and identifying potential for optimisation.
This overview is available in German, English and French. A checklist also provides a quick overview of requirements and recommendations.
First Call for National Prize for Open Research Data
The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences are launching the National Prize for Open Research Data (ORD Prize). This is part of the Action Plan "Open Research Data" implemented by the Academies as part of the National Strategy for Open Research Data. This newly launched prize aims to recognize researchers for innovative practices in the field of Open Research Data (ORD) and aims to promote the transition to open research practices.
In 2023, the National ORD Prize is themed "Reuse of Research Data." Researchers from all career levels and scientific disciplines can apply. Early-career researchers are also encouraged to apply. In total, three ORD prizes will be awarded: a Golden Award (10’000 CHF), a Silver Award (7’000 CHF), and a Bronze Award (4’000 CHF).
Applications are accepted until 31 Aug 2023, 5pm CEST and can be submitted here.
