The Open Science Programme of swissuniversities welcomes applications from eligible higher education institutions focusing on the following action lines by Wednesday, 31 May 2023.
- Participation to international initiatives
- Alternative forms of publication
- Research assessment
- Setting up of shared services & e-infrastructures

ORD: B5.2 Data Stewardship – Poster Session – 26 April 2023
On 26 April, the Kuppelraum of the University Berne was the scene of an inspiring poster session. Project leaders who had submitted their action plans under the B5.2 action line took the opportunity to present their projects and engage in constructive dialogue. The main aim of the event was to promote networking and the creation of synergies between the different projects.

ORD: Swiss Open Research Data Grants
swissuniversities and the ETH Domain jointly organise the Swiss Open Research Data Grants programme. This collaboration enables coherent and broad bottom-up support for ORD practices across disciplines and higher education institutions in Switzerland, thereby facilitating synergies and complementarities.
Newly funded projects in Track C
Track C “Contribute projects” enable researchers to contribute to existing open communities built on ORD principles, validate their integration into existing infrastructures, and to focus on their potential to improve scientific impact and technical quality.
The first call in this track was issued from 2 October to 2 December 2023. 2 projects have now been approved for funding by the Delegation Open Science. More information on the approved projects can be found here.
The second call for proposals for Track C will be issued from 2 June 2023 to 2 August 2023. Further information can be found on the Swiss Open Research Data Grants website.

Workshops on Copyright & Second Publication Right – 6/12/13 June 2023
Within the project Regulatory Framework financed by swissuniversities, CCdigitlalaw is proposing 3 Workshops on the topic of Copyright & Second Publication Right in Switzerland. The workshops are addressed to all researchers in Switzerland who are curious to learn more about the possibilities of the second publications (the green road of Open Access).
The workshops will cover the following topics: When is a work protected by copyright and for how long? Who is the author and who the right holder? What are Creative Commons Licenses? What is the role of the 5 Swiss Collecting Societies? Open Access and Second Publication Right: what is currently possible and in what directions are current discussions going?

GOAL – Unlocking the Green Open Access potential to close the gap
During the past twenty years Open Access has changed the way we publish and how we access information. And yet, there is still a lot that can be done. The world of professional and practice-oriented journals, a large field of its own, has not been in the focus of Open Access strategies yet.
This kind of publications are still left out of the picture notwithstanding the role they play for universities of applied sciences and of teachers’ education and, from a more global perspective, the relevant role they can play with the expansion of Open Science into broader public.
In this webinar we highlight the impact of professional and practice-oriented journals to academic publishing. As these publications often arise from collaborations with non-academic experts or private partners, they also play an important role for Citizen Science.
The GOAL project can decisively contribute to include this kind of publications and their stakeholders into the National Open Access Strategy and make them more visible in the world of academic publishing. By targeting a cooperation between Universities of Applied Science/Teacher Education and national players such as professional societies or small publishers, GOAL closes the gap to the field of bigger players which have strongly been in the focus of the National OA Strategy so far.

OLOS webinar – OLOS in Action! – 06 June 2023 – 13:30 CEST
The OLOS Association’s team is pleased to invite you to join the free webinar, OLOS in Action!, for a fast paced introduction and demonstration of the Swiss-based integrated data management solution OLOS. OLOS is the main deliverable of the Data Life-Cycle Management project, from swissuniversities P-5 Program. Its portal allows the long-term preservation of any kind of research data and documentation, and their access and reuse management.
This webinar is addressed to researchers, PhD students, research advisors, librarians, and to any person working with research data. It will be an occasion to get introduced to OLOS, and to see a demo during which will be to shown scenarios of Deposit, Collection and Access Control. At the end, a time will be dedicated to your questions.

Call for Participation at the ScienceComm 3 November 2023
Submit your contribution until 18 May 2023. This year’s conference focuses on how to get «from knowledge to dialogue to action» as well as addressing new target audiences with ‘scientainment, gamification, storytelling and fun’.

Swiss Year of Scientometrics: Promoting Responsible Use of Research Performance Indicators
Recognizing the importance of scientometric indicators in assessing research performance, the ETH Library has launched the “Swiss Year of Scientometrics” (SYoS). This project, funded by swissuniversities, aims to promote responsible and contextually appropriate use of these indicators.
As part of SYoS, the ETH Library will be organising four lectures that will be held in June, October, February and April. Each lecture will be accompanied by a workshop as well as blog posts. All of the dates and details of the events will be published in this blog.

A postdoctoral researcher position is available at the COMMONS Lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. The candidate will develop and implement computational solutions to establish and manage a Knowledge Graph documenting the chemo diversity of living systems using both untargeted metabolomics data and semantic web technologies.

After a PhD in the humanities and more than 10 years of international experience working with international organizations and academia, Dr Aude Bax de Keating wishes to move her focus on to her first love, the humanities.
