The Open Science Programme of swissuniversities welcomes applications from eligible higher education institutions focusing on the following action lines:
Action line B5.3: Establishment of a Network for Data Stewardship
We welcome project proposals that promote data stewardship and establish a corresponding network within the Swiss higher education landscape. Project proposals should aim at creating a network that fosters inter-institutional exchange on data stewardship, initiates collaborations, and addresses the needs of different institutions and research communities. The network is also intended to serve as a contact point for questions on data stewardship and ensure medium and long-term international alignment.

Action line C2.1: Developing good practices for RDM training at higher education institutions
Action line C2.1 seeks to develop good practices for RDM training at Swiss higher education institutions. The process of developing good practices must involve research communities and other relevant actors in the field of RDM.

ORD: Swiss Open Research Data Grants
swissuniversities and the ETH Domain jointly organise the Swiss Open Research Data Grants programme. This collaboration enables coherent and broad bottom-up support for ORD practices across disciplines and higher education institutions in Switzerland, thereby facilitating synergies and complementarities.
In one of its tracks, a third call was published:
The Call for proposals for “Explore projects” (Track A) is open from 16 March 2023 until 2 June 2023.
Track A encompasses early-phase exploration as well as the testing and prototyping of a potential ORD practice. It allows for engagement with a community without necessarily creating a final product. The objective is to help researchers explore if and how ORD practices can be developed.
The application guidelines for Track A are available here. Proposals may be submitted until 2 June 2023. Further information can be found on the Swiss Open Research Data Grants website.

DevPro training «Gestion des données de la recherche: Rôle et fonctions du Data Steward», 5 May 2023 at HES-SO
The OLOS Association’s team (https://olos.swiss/) is pleased to announce a new DevPro Research Data Management training, dedicated to Data Stewardship. OLOS is the main deliverable of the Data Life-Cycle Management project, from swissuniversities P-5 programme. Its portal allows for the long-term preservation of any kind of research data and documentation, and their access and reuse management.
This 1-day training is addressed to researchers, PhD students, research advisors, librarians, and open to any person working with research data. The training takes place from 9am-5pm and will be held in French. Inputs by

GOAL – Unlocking the Green Open Access potential to close the gap
During the past twenty years Open Access has changed the way we publish and how we access information. And yet, there is still a lot that can be done. The world of professional and practice-oriented journals, a large field of its own, has not been in the focus of Open Access strategies yet.
This kind of publications are still left out of the picture notwithstanding the role they play for universities of applied sciences and of teachers’ education and, from a more global perspective, the relevant role they can play with the expansion of Open Science into broader public.
In this webinar we highlight the impact of professional and practice-oriented journals to academic publishing. As these publications often arise from collaborations with non-academic experts or private partners, they also play an important role for Citizen Science.
The GOAL project can decisively contribute to include this kind of publications and their stakeholders into the National Open Access Strategy and make them more visible in the world of academic publishing. By targeting a cooperation between Universities of Applied Science/Teacher Education and national players such as professional societies or small publishers, GOAL closes the gap to the field of bigger players which have strongly been in the focus of the National OA Strategy so far.

Swiss Year of Scientometrics – Blog and Lectures on Responsible Metrics
The «Swiss Year of Scientometrics» (SYoS) shines a light on the limits and possibilities for scientometrics. SYoS consists of four lectures that will be accompanied by a workshop as well as blog posts.
With articles are written by specialists in the field, the newly published blog serves as a space for discussion and a more in-depth examination of related topics. These discussions will be initiated in the run-up to the lectures and taken up again for examination in further detail afterwards.
We invite you to the first lecture of SYoS taking place on 7 June 2023 at ETZ Zurich by Dr Stefanie Haustein from the School of Information Studies, University of Ottawa, and co-director of the Scholarly Communications Lab. Dr Haustein will provide an overview of the scientometrics landscape and its latest developments.

DIAMAS Project – participate in the survey on Diamond Open Access
EUA invites you to provide your input on Diamond Open Access and institutional publishing landscape. The recently launched survey is targeted at Institutional Publishing Services Providers (IPSPs), including those from Switzerland.
The DIAMAS project (Developing Institutional Open Access Publishing Models to Advance Scholarly Communication) – of which EUA is a partner – aims to support Diamond Open Access and institutional publishing by setting new standards, increasing visibility and promoting the sustainability of a diverse publishing landscape. With this survey, the project hopes to map how the sector is currently organised in order to understand existing challenges.
The survey results will be used to develop a range of resources that will offer practical help to practitioners working in the field of institutional publishing, including tools, guidelines, quality standards, policy recommendations and training programmes. Your input is therefore essential for DIAMAS to achieve these aims and help support the transition to Open Science.
The survey is available here in 10 languages. The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, 30 April 2023.
To help respondents complete the survey, DIAMAS is offering a series of SURVEY-A-THONS designed to provide practical support with issues, questions and queries which might arise. These online sessions will give you the opportunity to block time for the survey and complete the questions with other participants. Representatives from the DIAMAS project will be on hand to answer questions and troubleshoot as you fill in the questionnaire.

Open Science Days - May 08-09, 2023 | HES-SO (on-site and virtual)
The HES-SO is organising two days dedicated to Open Science on 8-9 May 2023. They will be held in Yverdon-les-Bains at the Haute École d'Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud. These interdisciplinary days include conferences and workshops on different dimensions of Open Science. The days are free of charge and open to all.

The Archive ouverte UNIGE opens its new public interface for search and consultation
The major redesign project began in 2020 and was carried out in two stages: firstly, the launch of a new submission and validation interface offering new functionalities and greater user-friendliness in autumn 2021; secondly, the finalization of the search and consultation interface, completed in March 2023 with the migration of data from the old to the new infrastructure. Archive ouverte UNIGE offers unified and easy access to the University's scientific patrimony, which today totals a rich collection of over 100’000 records, 90% of which are with full text.

Successful first phase of our Subscribe to Open (S2O) pilot
Karger Publishers is piloting the new Open Access model “Subscribe to Open” to help pave the way for a broader, more equitable Open Science ecosystem. Two subscription journals are now Open Access for 2023.
