Newsletter of the Programme Open Science, November 2021

Dear colleagues,

Here is the latest issue of our newsletter, which informs you monthly about our program and its scope.

FROM THE PROGRAMME

Conference "P-5 Outcomes: Scientific Information Services for All" on 30. November 2021 takes place ONLINE

Due to the increasing numbers of COVID-19 infected patients and in the light of all the uncertainties that come with it, we are forced to hold the conference P-5 Outcomes: Scientific Information Services for All on November 30, 2021 as an online only event. The safety of everyone involved is central and it is of great concern to us to contribute to the efforts to stop the spread of the virus.

We are sorry for any possible inconvenience related with this decision. We would have loved to welcome you in person, but rest assured that we are doing everything we can to make the online format of the conference interesting and informative for you. Our keynote speakers are looking forward to their presentations, and you will have the opportunity to attend online demos of our services, interact with the speakers, ask your questions and exchange ideas.

This change does not affect your registration if you have already registered.

All information about the conference as well as the registration form can be found under this link. The registration deadline has been extended until November 29, 2021, therefore feel free to register and to share it with your networks.

Publisher negotiations with Springer Nature

As announced in August, the quota of articles included in the contract with Springer Nature has now been reached. This means that researchers from participating institutions will no longer be able to publish their articles Open Access free of charge until the end of the year. Researchers can contact their institution to discuss the alternatives available. A new quota of free Open Access articles will be available again from January 2022.

New Team Members

swissuniversities and the Open Science team are pleased to introduce two new team members.

Katja Fiechter joined the General Secretariat on 17 September 2021 as a research assistant, taking on tasks related to Phase B in the Open Research Data program. She completed her Master's degree in European Linguistics at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg i. Br. in 2016 and subsequently worked as Secretary General ad interim at LH Medical Management GmbH. From 2017-2021, Katja Fiechter conducted her Doc.CH SNF research project at the Université de Fribourg and submitted her dissertation in Germanic Linguistics. Katja Fiechter is very familiar with the issues that arise in the field of Open Science and Open Research Data and she convinces with her solution-oriented, pragmatic approach and her knowledge of the interfaces between research and management.

On November 2, 2021, Dr. Mélissa Fardel started working in the General Secretariat as a research assistant/lawyer. Dr. Fardel studied law at the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and wrote her dissertation in international criminal law on "La participation des victimes aux procédures pénales internationales et les droits de l'accusé." Accompanying this, she worked at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in The Hague. Subsequently, Ms. Fardel was employed as a lawyer at the FDFA as an expert in international law and constitutional and administrative law, and she also impressed us during the application process with her proven knowledge of diplomatic processes and negotiation preparations. Ms. Fardel has a broad range of experience and is particularly interested in copyright and data protection.

We warmly welcome Katja Fiechter and Dr. Melissa Fardel and wish them all the best for their new roles.
