PROJECTS
OA-EASI project successfully completed
The project Open Access for Educational and Applied Sciences (OA-EASI), co-financed by swissuniversities, was successfully completed in July 2021. The project resulted in three publications, which are deposited in the community of the same name on Zenodo (link):
- Publication Analysis at Swiss Universities of Teacher Education and Universities of Applied Sciences 2017-2019. project report (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4460338).
- Journal flipping: conditions for success, challenges and concerns - analysis of expert* interviews in the project Open Access for Educational and Applied Sciences (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4940027)
- Recommendations for the publication of practice-oriented Open Access journals in Switzerland. Supplement to the checklist of OANA (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5076088).

New online tool and paper: Shear and Breathing Modes of Layered Materials
A new review paper, also supported by the swissuniversities project "Materials Cloud", has been recently published in ACS Nano:
- Giovanni Pizzi, Silvia Milana, Andrea C. Ferrari, Nicola Marzari, and Marco Gibertini, Shear and Breathing Modes of Layered Materials, ACS Nano, Article ASAP (2021), https://doi.org/10.1021/acsnano.0c10672
The paper provides a detailed analysis of the optical activity of multilayers originating from layered materials in any of the possible 3D space groups known by crystallography. The underlying code is available open source and also deployed as an open online tool on the Materials Cloud portal at https://materialscloud.org/work/tools/layer-raman-ir

New paper: Common workflows for computing material properties using different quantum engines
The paper “Common workflows for computing material properties using different quantum engines” has been recently published in npj Computational Materials.
- Sebastiaan P. Huber, Emanuele Bosoni, Marnik Bercx et al., Common workflows for computing material properties using different quantum engines, npj Comput. Mater. 7, 136 (2021), https://doi.org/10.1038/s41524-021-00594-6
A team of AiiDA plugin developers (https://www.aiida.net), involving also researchers funded by the swissuniversities project "Materials Cloud", have developed common interfaces for workflows that automatically compute material properties. Then, they have implemented these interfaces for 11 very popular DFT simulation codes, making these advanced simulations very easy to run, also thanks to an automatic choice of all numerical parameters. In addition, using the AiiDA workflow engine, they guarantee reproducibility of the simulations, simplify interoperability and cross-verification, and open up the use of quantum engines to a wider range of researchers.

inseri.swiss: Project manager stepping down Oct 31, 2021
After proudly being part of swissuniversities projects for almost 5 years as a developer, technical lead and project lead, Jan Clemens Stoffregen is stepping down as project lead at the end of October to pursue a new professional challenge in the financial services industries sector.
He asked swissuniversities to forward this message, to particularly thank all past and current colleagues and partners for the collaboration and he would like to emphasise the sincere appreciation for the time spent together.
