19 June 2024: swissuniversities Open Access Webinar: when Green meets Diamond
Green Open Access and Diamond Open Access refer to different models of scholarly open access publishing which at first glance do not share many connections. However, they could be seen as strong partners in aiming for a more sustainable and affordable scholarly communication system.
In this webinar, we aim at exploring the links, perceptions, and challenges of both Green and Diamond Open Access and the question of how we can seize opportunities and synergies in our goals to enhance non-commercial open access publishing. The discussion will therefore touch upon issues such as institutional publishing infrastructures, rights retention, and international connectivity.
This webinar is a joint venture between the project «GOAL – Unlocking the Green Open Access Potential» and the project «PLATO – Platinum Open Access Funding» – both co-funded by swissuniversities.

26 June 2024: Invitation to the Presentation of the revised Swiss National Open Access Strategy in Berne
We are pleased to invite you on Wednesday, 26 June 2024, to a presentation and discussion of the revised Swiss National Open Access Strategy.
swissuniversities and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), partners to the Open Access strategy for Switzerland 2017–2024, have undertaken a review of the strategic parameters in order to update them beyond 2024. Experiences from the implementation and current developments as of 2023/2024 were addressed with the overarching aim of ensuring the long-term development of Open Access in the Swiss higher education landscape.
The strategy review is now drawing to a conclusion, and the revised strategy shall be presented to the public. To this end, an afternoon event is planned to reflect on the analyses and developments in the Open Access context on Wednesday, 26 June, 4-6pm, in Berne. Both experts involved in the process as well as interested professionals and researchers are invited. Prior to the presentation, a workshop dedicated to Diamond Open Access for learned societies will be held.

- 16h – 17h30: Part 2: Presentation and discussion of the revised Swiss National Open Access Strategy

CHORD Summer Survey
The project CHORD-talk-in-interaction has just released its “CHORD Summer Survey” – an online survey on research data management and re-use. The project is part of a swissuniversities project on Open Research Data (ORD) and explores the practices researchers engage in to share data about talk-in-interaction.
The “CHORD Summer Survey” is intended for researchers and students based in Switzerland who work with audio and/or video recordings of spoken discourse and their written transcripts. The aim of the survey is to gain a better understanding of the current practices and challenges of sharing and re-using this type of data and to assess the needs of the concerned scientific communities when it comes to data management. The survey outlines three different data usage scenarios, and it will take between 5 and 15 minutes to complete, depending on the usage scenario that applies. The survey is accessible via this anonymous link. It will be online for two months, until 30 June 2024.
Call for applications: National ORD Prize 2024
The call for the National ORD Prize 2024 is open and applications will be accepted until 31 July 2024, 5:00 PM CET.
This prize aims to recognize individual researchers and research teams for innovative practices in the field of Open Research Data (ORD) and to promote the transition to open research practices.
Researchers from all career levels and scientific disciplines working at Swiss research institutions, such as universities, universities of applied sciences, federal institutes, and universities of teacher education, are eligible to apply. Early-career researchers are also encouraged to submit their research projects.
The ORD prize jury defined two new focus areas for this year’s competition:
(1) Collaborative and/or interdisciplinary reuse of research data
(2) Educational and/or outreach activities related to the reuse of research data.
First Call for Codes of Conduct is open!
The Swiss Academies are seeking proposals for the development of discipline- or data community-specific codes of conduct concerning Open Research Data (ORD). In total up to four projects with one code of conduct per project will be funded. The Codes of Conduct are intended to serve as guides and reference frameworks for specific disciplines and data communities in the field of Open Research Data. Submission deadline: 31 May 2024.

17 May 2024, Webinar: Open Data / Open Access in the Area of the Performing Arts
Over the past five years, there has been an increasing interest among stakeholders of the performing arts to implement open data strategies and to collaborate around shared data ecosystems. This webinar provides an overview of current initiatives promoting open data / open access in the performing arts. It addresses practical challenges related to the implementation of an open data / open access strategy both at a heritage institution and at a theatre company.
After a short introduction to the topic, the Swiss Archive of the Performing Arts (SAPA) and the Zurich-based Theater Winkelwiese will present their perspective on the topic and the current activities at their respective institutions. In the second part of the webinar, the participants are invited to share their challenges and burning issues when it comes to data sharing in the field of the performing arts. Approaching the topic from different perspectives, the event will identify common ground and suggest meaningful ways of actively contributing to the emergent data ecosystem for the performing arts.
This webinar is part of the webinar series organised by the research project «OS-ADM – Open Science for Arts, Design and Music» co-funded by swissuniversities.

28 May 2024: Invitation to the inseri.swiss workshop, 2-4pm
The workshop is targeted to the staff of higher education institutions and will give a hands-on introduction to inseri core, a new tool developed as part of the swissuniversities project inseri.swiss, that allows researchers to create and publish interactive and executable online content without requiring web development skills. inseri core is a WordPress plugin under active development that introduces scientific and interactive components (e.g., Data Table, Plotly Chart, Python Code, JavaScript Code, Zenodo Repository) to facilitate open science.

31 May 2024: Public event “Open Research Data – are we on track?”
The aim of Open Research Data (ORD) is to make scientific data available in a transparent way as well as for reproducibility and reuse purposes. Switzerland published its ORD Strategy in 2021, and an Action Plan in 2022. With the experience gained so far, it is time to reflect on these developments: How well is ORD accepted, implemented and applied? What intended benefits could have been realised so far? Are risks and challenges well accounted for? The conference is organized by the Swiss Academy of Science, the programme can be found here.

10–11 June 2024: Swiss Reproducibility Conference 2024 in Zurich
This is the first ever national conference on all topics related to reproducibility including the National Reproducibility Awards. Keynote speakers at the conference are:

30 May 2024 The CLARIN-CH working group monthly webinar series in 2024
The CLARIN-CH working group “Management of sensitive and personal data, ethical and legal issues for linguistic data” is organizing a monthly webinar series in 2024 on the topic of sensitive and personal data. Events take place 12am-1pm online on Zoom. No registration is necessary.
The event series started in February with Brian Kleiner (FORS) on the legal aspects of data protection. Further talks will focus on the technical aspects of data protection, anonymization of textual data, video and audio files, on intellectual property rights, the collecting and sharing of social media data, cross-border projects and legal aspects of sharing and reusing linguistic data.

27 May to 1 June 2024, CRAFT-OA 2024 Summer School for Journal Editors, Telč, Czech Republic
The CRAFT-OA project team is pleased to announce the project’s first summer school taking place at the Masaryk University Center in Telč, Czech Republic.
Are you a journal editor looking to automate your workflow? Are you considering the use of Open Journal Systems (OJS) or any other journal management system? Or are you currently using OJS for your journal, but would like to improve your journal presentation / work efficiency / automated tasks? You are invited to join this summer school which will offer basic as well as advanced training to refine editorial skills and elevate the standards of Diamond Open Access publishing. Participants will delve into diverse aspects of OJS, gain insights into alternative journal management systems, and engage in meaningful discussions regarding the broader landscape of Diamond OA publishing.
This summer school is organised as part of the CRAFT-OA project. CRAFT-OA is an EU-funded project that aims to make state-of-the-art Open Access publishing available to everyone. Running from January 2023 to December 2025 the project helps editors and publishers by improving the technical and organisational infrastructure of Diamond Open Access.
The five-day intensive training course with experts in journal management systems is free of charge. You have to cover your own travel and accommodation costs.
During the Summer School, an excursion will be organised to the city of Brno. There, you can just enjoy the atmosphere of the beautiful student city or you can visit the world famous Villa Tugendhat.
